Drilling Technology Field Support Consultant
Senior Consultant – Drilling Technology Assurance (DTA)
Drilling Technology Field Support Consultant
Athens Group is seeking to expand our team of software consulting professionals who are currently developing ground-breaking engineering and operations solutions for our upstream Oil & Gas customers.
We currently have a position open for a Drilling Technology Field Support Consultant. This position requires 50-75% travel to drilling rigs in the Western United States, with potential for future travel to international and offshore client locations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Install and configure drilling technology hardware and software, and ensure network connectivity
- Provide 12x7 technical support to drillers and rig personnel by phone/email and in person at the rig site
- Work with the development group to facilitate the adoption of our software system
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues; Train end users on product
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong experience in the installation, configuration, maintenance and training of software solutions
- Demonstrated ability to do self directed work, deal effectively with unforeseen issues, and take responsibility for solving customer problems
- 3+ years of professional, customer facing consulting experience, including field support
- Understanding of systems development life cycles, software engineering, and quality assurance principles
- Ability to develop positive customer and team relationships
- Outstanding written, verbal, presentation, facilitation and team skills
- Strong computer skills including troubleshooting of hardware, software and networks, and effective use of word processing and spreadsheet applications
- Willingness to travel to client offices and oilfield locations as needed, including international and offshore rig sites. An estimated 50-75% travel will be required
Preferred:
- Experience related to drilling or other upstream Oil & Gas engineering and/or operations, preferably including field work
- College education, preferably in engineering or other technical field
- Experience with:
- Customer service and support operations
- Computer network maintenance and administration
- System administration in Windows environment
- Database maintenance and administration
- PLC based control systems
- Electrical and electronic hardware maintenance and troubleshooting

Senior Consultant – Drilling Technology Assurance (DTA)
Subcontractor and employee positions available. This position is based in Houston. Athens Group is seeking experienced software project managers to join our international Oil & Gas DTA team. The consultant's role is to verify and validate software integrity and interoperability on oil rigs located around the world, and provide software engineering expertise and project management services during all phases of rig development.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in computer science or similar
- Minimum five years of experience managing software projects in diverse technical environments
- Hands-on experience with one or more systems project management methodologies (RUP, BOK, RAD/JAD)
- Strong knowledge of system and project management tools: e.g. configuration management and version controls, issue tracking; risk management
- Strong documentation experience
- Strong verbal communication skills and ability to lead through consensus
- Ability to travel as needed (typical assignment is 14-28 days offshore or in a shipyard)
- Passport with at least nine months left before expiration
Preferred:
- Five years of experience in the consulting profession
- Five years of software development experience
- PMP Certification
- Software Quality Assurance and testing experience
- Control systems development experience
- Oil & Gas industry experience, especially upstream
